This guide explains what each dashboard card measures, how dates and filters work, what determines freshness, who can view the dashboard, and which capabilities are included in the September release scope.

Access to Analytics is also available via the API; the API specification can be found at api.stackinternal.com.

Dashboard definitions

Dashboard card What it means How the headline is calculated
Question volume Question volume tracks questions asked through Web, MCP, and API during the selected period. Adds the selected channel across the returned periods.
Answer engagement Answer engagement tracks how often answers are copied and sources opened. Adds all copy and source-opening actions across the selected range.
Knowledge creation Knowledge creation tracks searchable knowledge nodes created during the selected period. A knowledge unit is not necessarily one source document. Adds newly created knowledge units across the selected range.
Helpful answer rate The supplied helpful-answer rate, together with positive and negative feedback information and the number of feedback events. Uses the latest returned period rather than averaging the selected range.
Active users Unique users who perform at least one qualifying product activity during a period. Uses the latest returned period. Each daily, weekly, or monthly period is calculated independently.
Most active users Web and MCP leaderboards with seven displayed rows per page. Uses the latest returned period.
Knowledge Credits Knowledge Credits tracks credits used by validation, chat responses, and MCP calls. Every 4 MCP calls use 1 credit. Shows total credits used and the contribution from each supported activity category.

Date ranges

The date picker offers Last 30 days, Last 90 days, Last 6 months, Last 12 months, and Custom. Last 30 days is the default. Selected dates are preserved in the page URL. The browser uses its local calendar to determine today.

The dashboard automatically chooses its chart interval from the number of inclusive selected calendar days:

Selected range Chart interval
31 days or fewer Day
32 through 120 days Week
More than 120 days Month

Filters

The implemented dashboard filter is the date range. The Question volume card also has channel tabs, which change the series displayed from the already-loaded result.

Export and refresh behavior

The current analytics view may be downloaded as a CSV.

Charts request updated data when the page loads, when the date range changes, or when a failed card is retried. The shared chart component does not refresh on a timer. Reload the page to request updated values.

Data latency and freshness

Usage Analytics reads curated reporting data rather than live application counters. Analytics data is updated scheduled daily at 17:30 UTC.

Permissions

The Analytics dashboard requires an authenticated workspace user with the effective analytics:read permission.
