Getting Started with Stack Internal

This onboarding guide helps you set up your Stack Internal account.

Overview

This onboarding guide helps you set up your Stack Internal account and start turning scattered information into reliable, reusable knowledge for employees, teams, and AI agents.

Before you begin

Ensure that you have:

  • Permission to set up single-sign-on.
  • The credentials to set up at least one source; either to your Stack Internal community, Slack, or Google docs.

Quick start for admins

  1. Click the cog icon in the new Stack Internal sidebar.
  2. Accept the terms and conditions.
  3. Click Setup SSO via WorkOS.
  4. Find your SSO provider in the list and WorkOS will guide you through the setup process.
    1. If your provider is not on the list, click Custom SAML.
    2. You can find instructions for most providers on the WorkOS integrations help site.
    3. If you need any help with this, please contact our support team.
  5. Next, you’ll need to set up access to your Stack Internal community. If you’d like to connect Slack or Google Docs instead you can click Skip. A complete guide to this source is available here.
    1. Click Open API settings or navigate to https://[your_site]/enterprise/api.
    2. Click Register a new service application.
      1. Copy this API key. You may want to leave this page open until setup is finished.
    3. Click Continue.
    4. Enter your API key and the url of your Stack Internal community site.
    5. Click Connect.
  6. If you skipped the Stack Internal community source in step 5 you can go back into Control Center then Sources to configure a Stack Internal community source.

Your new Stack Internal site is now ready for use.

What’s next?

  • Start finding answers in the Chat interface. (Sources may take up to 24 hours to fully ingest.)
  • Enable the MCP server under Control CenterMCP and get started using it.
  • Explore the API. Guides are available on our help center.
